On The Layline was founded by Rob Watson. Rob is the former director of the Marine Business Technology Centre (MBTC), the highly successful European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) supported marine innovation service based in Devon in the UK. Running from 2018 to 2023, the MBTC was recognised as the exemplar programme for ERDF and was responsible for the development of Smart Sound Plymouth. Covering 1000 square kilometres, Smart Sound is a world-leading, fully instrumented and managed marine testbed based in and around Plymouth Sound. It also incorporates the world’s first ocean-focused 5G private network.
